Peanut paste – what exactly is it?

Peanuts are also called groundnuts, so peanut paste and groundnut paste are the same thing. A 100% version is made from a single ingredient: peanuts are roasted and then ground until they release their own oil and turn into a smooth paste. Nothing needs to be added – the creaminess comes from the nut itself.

How is it different from a nut cream? A cream is usually a blend of nuts with sugar, vegetable fat, cocoa or milk powder. A 100% paste is just nuts – more savoury, with a distinct roasted-peanut flavour that you season sweet or savoury yourself. Looking for a sweet peanut spread? How to choose a good peanut paste: what to check on the label

• Peanut content – in a 100% paste it is the only ingredient. If the list is longer, it's a blend.
• Sugar and salt – check whether they are added. We add neither to Peanoot Butter.
• Added fats – e.g. palm oil added to stop the paste from separating. Ours has none.
• Emulsifiers and preservatives – a 100% paste doesn't need them. Oil on the surface is a sign there's nothing but nuts in the jar.

The salt content comes from the sodium naturally present in peanuts – we don't add any. Per-tablespoon values are calculated from the values per 100 g.

How to use peanut paste

• Breakfast: porridge, smoothies, yoghurt with granola, pancakes or toast with banana or apple.
• Asian cuisine: a base for satay sauce for chicken, tofu, vegetables and rice noodles.
• Savoury: cream soups (e.g. pumpkin or sweet potato), curries and creamy salad dressings.
• Baking and desserts: brownies, cookies, homemade bars, toppings and cake creams.
• Straight from the jar: with a piece of dark chocolate or just off the spoon. No judgement!

Recipe: quick satay sauce

Mix 3 tablespoons of Peanoot Butter, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, the juice of half a lime, a crushed garlic clove and a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup. Thin with warm water to the consistency of thick cream. Great with grilled chicken, tofu, vegetables and noodles.

Recipe: porridge with peanut paste

Cook 50 g of oats in 200 ml of milk or plant drink. Top with a tablespoon of Peanoot Butter, sliced banana and a pinch of cinnamon. The paste melts slightly and turns porridge into dessert.

We don't promise miracles – it's simply a paste made from peanuts: 29 g of protein and 46 g of fat per 100 g, with no added sugar or salt. It's energy-dense (571 kcal per 100 g), so it's best enjoyed as part of a varied diet.

Is peanut paste suitable for children and babies?

Peanoot Butter is just roasted peanuts, with no added sugar or salt. Peanuts are, however, one of the most common allergens, so decide when and in what form to introduce them to your child's diet together with your paediatrician.

Can I give peanut paste to my dog?

Peanoot Butter contains no xylitol and no added salt. Please check with your vet before sharing it with your dog.

Is peanut paste vegan and gluten-free?

Yes. The only ingredient is peanuts, so Peanoot Butter is vegan and gluten-free.

Why does oil collect on top?

It's the natural oil from the peanuts. We don't add emulsifiers, so the oil may separate – just stir before use. Store in a dry, cool and dark place.
