Almond spread – what exactly is it?
An almond spread (also called almond cream) is a sweet spread based on ground almonds – ready to eat straight from the jar, on bread, toast or pancakes. Besides almonds it usually contains sugar, fat and a pinch of salt, which give it a creamy texture and a dessert-like taste. Almond Crunchy also has almond pieces, so it is a crunchy spread rather than a perfectly smooth one.
It is worth telling it apart from a few "relatives". Almond paste is nothing but ground almonds, with no additions – ours is Tylko Migdał. An almond cake cream is a homemade pastry filling you make yourself, for example from Almond Crunchy and mascarpone (recipe below). And almond face creams belong in the bathroom, not in our workshop. Where does the name come from? "Almond" is the nut, and "crunchy" says it all.
How to choose a good almond spread? What to look for in the ingredients
- How many almonds? The almond content should be given as a percentage. The higher up the list and the bigger the percentage, the more almond flavour.
- Order of ingredients – the list starts with the ingredient there is most of.
- Type of fat – check whether the ingredients include palm oil.
- Sugar – compare the "of which sugars" line in the nutrition table.
- Milk powder – important if you eat plant-based, as many spreads contain it.
To be honest about our spread: Almond Crunchy is sweetened with sugar – it is the second ingredient, and 100 g contains 23 g of sugars. If you are looking for almonds with no added sugar, choose Tylko Migdał paste (4.7 g of sugars per 100 g; contains naturally occurring sugars).

Recipe: almond cake cream with mascarpone
Ingredients: 250 g chilled mascarpone, 200 ml chilled 30% cream, approx. 150 g Almond Crunchy.
Method: whip the cream with the mascarpone until stiff. Finally add Almond Crunchy and stir briefly with a spatula – the almond pieces will stay in the cream. Enough to fill and cover a cake of about 20–22 cm. Almond Crunchy sweetens the cream on its own, so you usually don't need extra sugar. Note: with mascarpone and cream the dessert is no longer vegan.
Recipe: no-bake almond and raspberry tart
Ingredients: 200 g oat biscuits, 3 tablespoons melted coconut oil, approx. 200 g Almond Crunchy, 150 g raspberries.
Method: crush the biscuits, mix with the oil and press into a tart tin of about 20 cm. Chill for 20 minutes. Spread Almond Crunchy over the base, top with raspberries and chill for another hour. Choose vegan biscuits and the whole dessert is vegan.
